Anxhela Byku, a 20-year-old woman of Albanian origin, lost her life on Thursday evening in Piacenza, Italy, after a dramatic fall from the balcony of the apartment where she lived with her husband, who is also Albanian.
Emergency services, including 118 and the Carabinieri, arrived at the building on Viale Beverora after an alarm was raised by her husband, who found her lying in the inner courtyard of the building. The impact with the ground from a height of about 10 meters caused severe injuries, particularly to her head, which proved fatal.
The Carabinieri investigative unit carried out a reconstruction of the incident and detailed inspections in the apartment and surrounding areas. Investigators ruled out the involvement of third parties and now believe the fall was the result of an accident, according to media reports.
According to the investigation, the young woman had been locked out of the apartment and, while attempting to re-enter through the balcony, lost her balance and fell.
The victim’s family members, including her mother and sister, have arrived from Albania to stay close to her relatives. / abcnews
