“I can’t take it anymore! I’m sorry if I have upset you, but please believe me that I have never brought you shame. Thank you for everything you have done for me!”
These are the words written in the farewell letter that Xhuana Nikollaj left for her family before taking her own life, reports Top Channel.
The entire incident occurred in Tirana on March 9, when the victim’s ex-husband, Eraldo Fizi, went near Xhuana Nikollaj’s residence in the former Aviation Field area of Tirana.
Xhuana had recently moved to Tirana and was living in a rented apartment with a friend. The 25-year-old, who had graduated in law, had also started working to support herself in the capital after separating from Eraldo Fizi. She was also expecting to start a new job in the profession she had studied for, and she was very happy about the opportunity she had been given.
The 25-year-old’s family members were aware of her situation with her ex-husband, especially her sisters. This was one of the reasons they had decided that Xhuana should move to Tirana, where she initially lived with her sister and later moved in with her friend near the former Aviation Field area.
Nikollaj’s family had always been supportive of her, helping her deal with the situation she had gone through after the marriage. The young woman had often complained to her family, not about her ex-husband, but about his family.
According to relatives, Nikollaj claimed that the relationship worked well until his family interfered. Among other things, the family states that she was not pregnant and, until the moment she met Fizi in Tirana, she had been quite happy.
On March 9, her ex-husband came near her apartment building. Xhuana went downstairs together with her friend, where Eraldo Fizi was waiting. Concerned about her, the friend went down with her, stayed for a short time and then returned to the apartment. It is suspected that during the time he was alone with her, Xhuana was brutally assaulted by the 25-year-old Eraldo Fizi. In a severely distressed psychological state and after being assaulted, the young woman returned to the apartment at around 3 a.m.
In the morning, the friend she shared the apartment with left for work. Around 7 a.m., after her friend had left, Xhuana is suspected to have consumed phosphine (fostoxin) and began writing the farewell letter to her family. Xhuana had three other sisters, and after carrying out the act, she called the sister who lived in England and told her about the extreme step she had taken.
Alarmed, the sister immediately called Xhuana’s friend and the landlord of the rented apartment. Once informed, the landlord notified the ambulance and the police.
Police are also investigating how Xhuana obtained the fostoxin, since she had been with her ex-husband until 3 a.m., when she returned to the apartment.
Investigators have also raised other suspicions about the 25-year-old Eraldo Fizi, who is currently on the run. Xhuana Nikollaj had not suffered from depression and had never received medical treatment for such a condition.
