In line with the statements made yesterday by Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the EU Special Representative Peter Sorensen, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that it is taking all necessary measures to fully implement the Law on Foreigners and the Law on Vehicles.
Foreign citizens at the Dheu i Bardhë border crossing have been informed about the new measures by police officials. Starting Monday, applications for residence permits or address notifications will begin at all border crossing points in the country. This decision has not been well received by foreign citizens at the Dheu i Bardhë crossing.
“The police informed me that the rule now allows us to stay in Kosovo for only 90 days. It’s not fair — we often visit our family and contribute to this country. I don’t believe this is right,” one of the interviewed citizens told Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK).
“They informed us about the new rules for vehicles, which cannot stay for more than three months. We didn’t like this. What if we want to stay longer? Now I don’t know whether we need to leave Kosovo and return again to continue our vacation. We also have Kosovo documents — just because our car has foreign license plates, I don’t think this is fair,” said another citizen.
Citizens of Albania also did not welcome this decision.
This registration aims to integrate records of births, marriages, and deaths into Kosovo’s official system, while foreign citizens are required to declare their address within three days of entering the Kosovo. The declaration can be made online or at the nearest police station.
