The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, held a phone conversation with the U.S. President, Donald Trump, to discuss the current situation in the Middle East.
According to a statement from a spokesperson at 10 Downing Street, the two leaders discussed the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz in order to end the disruption to global maritime transport, which is driving up costs worldwide.
“The Prime Minister also expressed his condolences to the U.S. President for the American servicemen who lost their lives during the conflict,” the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, Starmer also held a conversation with the Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, where they discussed the impact that the continued closure of the strait is having on international maritime transport.
The two leaders agreed to continue consultations on the war in the Middle East during a meeting expected to take place on Monday.
