Avdullah Hoti, a member of parliament from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), has reacted to the government of Albin Kurti regarding the implementation of the Law on Foreigners (Kosovo).
He stated that Prime Minister Kurti is now forced to deal with the normalization of the functioning of parallel structures after several years of sanctions from the European Union.
“Now, after several years of sanctions from the EU and criticism from other allies, Kurti is forced to deal with the normalization of the functioning of parallel structures. Kosovo certainly must be ready for dialogue with its northern neighbor, always with the mediation of allies. But no one has the right to accept solutions, even if they may appear technical, that normalize the functioning of parallel structures. The establishment of a ‘status quo’ must not be accepted,” he wrote, among other things.
The Government of Kosovo today agreed to issue temporary residence permits for 12 months to members of the Serb community who do not have Kosovo documents, and to recognize identity cards issued by Serbian authorities. These steps aim to ease the consequences of the full implementation of the Law on Foreigners and the law on vehicles, which will come into force on March 15.
According to the legislation, people who do not possess Kosovo documents will be required to obtain residence permits, while vehicles with foreign license plates will not be allowed to circulate on the country’s roads for more than three months, unless authorized otherwise.
