Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted regarding the implementation of the Law on Foreigners and the Law on Vehicles.
Rama stated that the Western Balkans joining the European Union is not an act of charity, but a strategic victory.
“We welcome the Kosovo–EU coordination on the Law on Foreigners. The dismantling of parallel structures is a difficult task. The EU must respond to this courage by lifting the punitive measures and moving forward with Kosovo’s application for membership.
A Western Balkans fully inside the EU is not charity. It is the strategic victory of Europe itself,” Rama wrote on X.
The Government of Kosovo has agreed to grant temporary residence permits for 12 months to members of the Serbian community who do not possess Kosovo documents, and to recognize identity cards issued by Serbian authorities. These steps aim to ease the consequences of the full implementation of the Law on Foreigners and the Law on Vehicles, which will enter into force on March 15.
According to the legislation, individuals who do not have Kosovo documents will need to obtain a residence permit, while vehicles with foreign license plates will not be allowed to circulate on the country’s roads for more than three months, unless authorized otherwise.
