The Secretary-General of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Vlora Çitaku, commented on the failure to elect the President of Kosovo, criticizing what she described as misinterpretations by Prime Minister Albin Kurti regarding her party’s stance.Speaking on the show Debat Plus on TV Dukagjini, Çitaku said that PDK had not requested any “blank” agreement with Vetëvendosje Movement, but rather a principled agreement to break the cycle of political crises.
“Mr. Kurti made a deliberate misinterpretation of the issue. PDK has not asked for a blank agreement. We have asked for a principled agreement. We did not go to the table to bargain, nor out of spite or to satisfy personal egos. We went to the table to offer a solution and to get out of this endless cycle of crises that we have been stuck in for nearly two years.
Chairman Bedri Hamza told Kurti that we are ready to propose a candidate, but we have not discussed names that are exclusively party-affiliated,” she said.Çitaku added that it would be unfair to speak publicly about specific names without first having PDK’s prior agreement on a candidacy.
“This would have been the first step. Afterwards, we would sit down to discuss the criteria, qualities, and specifics of the candidates in question. The current situation has come as a result of the lack of political will from the majority,” she concluded.
