Journalist Vehbi Kajtazi commented on the scandal surrounding the exhibition “Massacres in Kosovo 1998–1999,” authored by Shkëlzen Gashi, describing the situation as deeper than it appears on the surface.
According to him, cases like Gashi’s are not isolated, and such developments appear in public during sensitive moments for the country.
Kajtazi stated that although the actors may be Albanians, behind them there is often the influence of Serbia acting as the “scriptwriter” of these developments.
“The situation is much deeper. These kinds of events in Kosovo have quite a history. The case of Shkëlzen Gashi is not the only one. These situations appear at extremely important moments for the country. I am convinced that when such events happen, the authors are Albanians, whereas the scriptwriter is Serbia, continuously, even in this case. This has happened to us repeatedly since 1999, when Serbia had influence through our own people in creating certain situations that were harmful to us,” Kajtazi said on Rubikon.
He emphasized that this pattern, according to him, has been repeated over the years, mentioning periods starting from 1999, when, as Kajtazi claims, Serbia exerted influence through certain individuals within Kosovo to create situations harmful to the country.
In this context, he also mentioned historical events, such as developments around the Rambouillet Agreement and the unrest of 2004.
“In 1999, Demaçi was in the hands of people who worked for Serbia and who influenced Demaçi to oppose signing the Rambouillet Agreement. As a result, the Kosovo delegation in Rambouillet was forced to return here to convince them that the agreement had to be signed, and for two weeks Serbia was given an extraordinary opportunity to bring in all its weaponry, army, and police into Kosovo, after which the largest ethnic cleansing occurred. This is one of the cases where the influence of people linked to Serbia was direct even on Adem Demaçi and the influence he had on zone commanders who threatened the Kosovo delegation that they would shoot down the airplane if they signed the Rambouillet Agreement. I believe you know where Adem Demaçi was staying in 1999.
The second is the violence of 2004, which was organized by Serbia—there are documents about it—and it was carried out by Albanians who were paid killers, and they organized all that violence which was directed against the Serbian minority and Orthodox churches in Kosovo. As a consequence, today we have given the church a special status. Then there were other situations through which, via LVV, Serbia managed to achieve extraordinary goals,” he added.
