Five European countries said on Thursday, in a joint statement with Japan, that they would take measures to stabilize energy markets and are ready to help ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan condemned Iran’s recent attacks and called on Tehran to immediately stop its actions.
“Freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle of international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,” they emphasized.
“Maritime security and freedom of navigation benefit all countries. We call on all states to respect international law and support the fundamental principles of international prosperity and security,” they stated.
