Pristina Under Surveillance, Police Fines Sent Directly to Homes

Twenty-four cameras with automatic license plate recognition, six multisensor video surveillance cameras, and one rotating camera have now been installed across the city of Pristina.

All citizens driving in the busiest areas of the capital will be monitored at nine locations by these cameras.

If traffic violations are detected, the fine will be sent directly to their home.

“Through these cameras, it will be possible to identify traffic offenses in real time, such as speeding, running red lights, stopping in prohibited areas, and other violations according to the Law on Road Traffic Rules,” the Kosovo Police said.

According to the former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, this strategy is quite well known.

“It is a well-known international practice, based on a legal framework, and as such it should be implemented naturally,” said Valdet Hoxha.

According to him, this could significantly help reduce the number of accidents.

“The installation of cameras throughout the city, aimed at issuing fines but above all ensuring the smooth flow of road traffic and reducing the number of accidents, has also shown results statistically in many countries and international practices, significantly lowering the number of accidents, both fatal and non-fatal,” Hoxha added.

This is a joint project of the Kosovo Police and the Directorate for Safety and Emergencies of the Capital, as part of a strategy to strengthen public safety and integrated management of urban traffic. 🚦📷
