Prime Minister Albin Kurti: Lowering VAT and excise would create a financial gap

Prime Minister Albin Kurti returned to the Assembly, where an extraordinary session on fuel prices is being held.

Kurti stated that reducing VAT and excise taxes on fuel would create a significant financial gap in the state budget.

He added that the Government is preparing the Inflation Package 2.0 worth 200 million euros to cope with rising prices.

“As we have seen when VAT was reduced on essential products from 18% to 8% in 2016, their prices did not decrease. The same happened when VAT was lowered for the gastronomy sector during the pandemic prices did not go down,” he said.
