Kurti’s statement that the president should have a notary-like role, Osmani: Those are wishful assessments—desire is one thing, the Constitution is another

Former President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, commented on a past statement by Prime Minister Albin Kurti regarding the role of the president in Kosovo.

Kurti had previously stated that the president should only have the role of a notary. Confronted with this statement on the show “Pressing” on T7, Osmani said this is merely a wishful assessment, since the Constitution stipulates that the president represents Kosovo abroad, reports Insajderi.

“I have received only extremely high evaluations from Mr. Kurti regarding representation abroad, which is why his latest stance—that he wants a president who does not deal with foreign policy—was surprising to me. We may have whatever opinions we want about what a president should be like, but what we cannot ignore is what the Constitution requires,” Osmani stated.

“The Constitution requires that the president represent the country abroad and not be a spectator. No president before me has been a spectator. Ibrahim Rugova was not one—he shaped foreign policy. Nor was President Fatmir Sejdiu. Nor was President Atifete Jahjaga, nor President Hashim Thaçi.”

“Assessments that individual politicians may have about what a president should be are wishful thinking, but desire is one thing—the Constitution and reality are something else. Anyone who thought I was the kind of politician who would stay behind closed doors and remain unseen during my mandate was very mistaken.” /Insajderi.org/
