“Italian minister on the war with Iran: I have terrible information; I can’t sleep because of what is going to happen.”

Italy’s Defense Minister, Guido Crosetto, has issued a dramatic warning about a war with Iran, saying he has “terrible” information indicating an escalation of the conflict, the consequences of which would be felt across all of Europe.
In an interview with the newspaper La Repubblica, Crosetto was more direct than ever, stressing that the threat is not only military but also social and economic, reports Index.hr.
“I live this war and its possible consequences 24 hours a day. Because of the nature of my job, I have access to information that makes me unable to sleep. I am afraid of what could happen in the coming weeks, as well as the consequences it will have on the economy and everyday life,” Crosetto said.
The minister also claimed that Italy was not involved in making the key decisions that led to the current tense situation. He said his country does not support a war with Iran and that “no one asked them for their opinion.”
A conflict more complex than the one in Ukraine
Crosetto believes that a war with Iran could be longer and more complex than the conflict in Ukraine, mainly because of Iran’s strength. “Iran is larger, more populous and historically more powerful than Ukraine, which makes it a difficult opponent,” he warned.
Although Crosetto did not go into details, analysts believe his concerns are mainly related to the Strait of Hormuz, a key point for global energy trade. Last Thursday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, once again extended at the last minute the deadline he had set for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, this time until April 6, threatening strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure.
On Sunday, Trump said that negotiations were taking place with Tehran, “directly and indirectly,” and today he again called for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
“Great progress has been made, but if an agreement is not reached soon, for whatever reason, and maybe it will be reached, and if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened immediately, we will end our wonderful ‘stance’ in Iran by blowing up and wiping out all of their power plants, oil wells and the Kharg Island,” the U.S. president wrote on the Truth Social network.
Tehran has denied negotiations with the United States, saying that U.S. proposals, presented through intermediaries, are “excessive and unreasonable.”
