Draft Law on Health Insurance Approved by the Government

The Government of Kosovo has today approved mandatory Health Care Insurance.

The Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, spoke about this draft law, describing it as one of the most important initiatives for the future of healthcare in the country.

“One of the most important initiatives for the future of healthcare in our country, the draft law on mandatory health care insurance, is of special importance. This law comes after a long period of discussions; the challenges of our healthcare system have been carefully analyzed, and international practices have been studied in order to create a law that responds to the needs of our citizens and is applicable to our economic and social reality. After more than 10 years, this draft law represents an important step toward creating a sustainable and inclusive health insurance system.”

 

“With this law, the mandatory Health Insurance Fund of the Republic of Kosovo is established. The function and financing of this fund, through the draft law on mandatory health care insurance, will regulate the following issues: the law includes the entire population, ensuring universal access to healthcare services, as well as improving quality. It creates a foundation for developing financing mechanisms in the healthcare system, achieving universal health coverage, and reducing poverty and inequality caused by healthcare costs by ensuring access for all residents,” said the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia.
