The Parliament of Albania has approved, with 79 votes in favor, a resolution declaring Iran a state sponsor of terrorism.
During the vote, there was only one abstention and no votes against.
The head of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, stated during his speech in the session that terrorism is not only an act of violence but also an undermining of the democratic order.
He emphasized that Albania remains firm and unwavering in this fight, standing on the side of the rule of law.
“The fight against terrorism is a battle to preserve international peace and stability. Albania remains clear and steadfast in this fight by choosing the side of the rule of law. The serious attack in 2022 against the institutions of the Republic of Albania was one of the aggressive episodes against a sovereign state. It attempted to damage the functioning of institutions,” Balla declared.
According to him, a few days ago, the Parliament of Albania was also targeted by a new cyberattack.
“These are clearly hostile acts. The resolution we are invited to discuss aims to address this reality. We aim to clearly condemn any form of support for aggression. To declare Iran’s Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization,” Balla said.
