Rukë Haradinaj, the mother who lost two sons during the war and another one after the war, has spoken about her sorrow in spring, when the dates marking the anniversaries of the loss of her three sons approach.
Through tears, Rukë Haradinaj recounted her great losses and remembers the tragic dates that break her heart.
“Now it begins—March 24, the 16th and the 15th are the anniversaries of my two sons, May 6 is Luan’s—one after another… Spring is hard for me,” she says. “I know I have many friends, but everyone grieves in their own way, because this was war.”
Rukë Haradinaj lost two of her sons, Shkëlzen and Luan, during the war in Kosovo, and Enver, another son, after the war.
The Haradinaj family from Deçan is among the most well-known families for their contribution during the Kosovo war, and stories like Rukë Haradinaj’s bring back into focus the open wounds and painful memories that many citizens continue to carry.
