The United States has set April 9 as a possible date for ending the war with Iran, and talks between the two sides are expected to begin soon, Israeli media reported.
According to the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, an unidentified Israeli official said that “Washington has set April 9 as the target date for ending the war, leaving around 21 days for the continuation of fighting and negotiations,” reports Ballkani.info.
The same source added that “talks between Iran and the United States are expected later this week in Pakistan,” noting that Washington had not informed Israel about the details of its contacts with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.
The newspaper also cited Israeli assessments that the United States is already holding indirect talks with Qalibaf, following statements by the U.S. president regarding contacts with Iran aimed at ending the war. However, Qalibaf said that there had been no talks with the United States, dismissing the reports as “fake news” intended to manipulate financial and oil markets.
U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier on Monday that he had ordered a five-day delay of all attacks on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, citing “very good and productive” talks with Tehran over the past two days.
Regional escalation has continued to grow since the United States and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran on February 28, killing more than 1,340 people, including the then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks against Israel, as well as against Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states that host U.S. military facilities, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure and disrupting global markets and air traffic. /Ballkani.info/
