Norway’s Crown Princess, Mette-Marit, said on Friday that she regrets her friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, seeking to contain one of the biggest scandals to hit the country’s royal family.
The release by the U.S. Department of Justice of millions of Epstein documents has caused shock around the world, revealing the disgraced financier’s connections with prominent figures, including the Crown Princess and senior Norwegian politicians, business leaders, and diplomats.
“I was manipulated and deceived,” Mette-Marit said in a tearful interview with the public broadcaster NRK, which aired on Friday morning. “Of course, I wish I had never met him,” she said about Epstein.
