Përparim Gruda: We expect Osmani’s decree to be declared constitutional; elections within 45 days

Vjosa Osmani’s decree to dissolve the Assembly is expected to be declared constitutional by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, and new elections should be held within 45 days, according to PDK MP Përparim Gruda.

Speaking on the TV show Debat Plus, Gruda added that the Assembly of Kosovo has already exhausted its right to elect the president, and that any other interpretation, such as the 60-day deadline, is not valid.

“We expect that President Osmani’s decree to dissolve the Assembly will be declared constitutional, and that the Constitutional Court will determine that new elections must be announced and held within 45 days. This is because that is what is stipulated in the Constitution of Kosovo,” he emphasized.

He also stressed that the Assembly of Kosovo should have elected the president 30 days before the end of the mandate of the acting president.

“The Assembly of Kosovo has already used up its right to elect a president. And any obstructive interpretation of the Constitution claiming that there are another 60 days, I don’t think is valid. The Assembly of Kosovo should have elected the president 30 days before the current president’s mandate expired,” Gruda said on Debat Plus.

Gruda further emphasized that the 30-day deadline in the Constitution serves one purpose, while the 60-day deadline serves another.
